No Win No Fees

When facing the challenges associated with your personal injuries, you may very well choose to work with an injuries solicitor in order to help you through the soliciting process. The local courts around the United Kingdom may hear smaller cases without representation, but in general it is expected in the U.K. that more serious cases will have the injured party being represented by their personal solicitors.

However, if you are concerned about the fee that a solicitor may charge you and you can't imagine handling those costs on top of the expenses that you are already having to pay due to your accident, then there are special arrangements that can be made in order to help defray any up front costs until after you win the case. These arrangements are called no win no fees arrangements, also referred to as conditional fee arrangements.

A no win no fee personal injuries solicitor solicits the court on behalf of an injured person or persons with no fees paid up front. They are willing to do this because they believe that they can prove that the other party did indeed injure you and that the injuring was due to some form of neglect on their part. In other words, although no wins in court are ever a sure thing, injury solicitors across Great Britain are willing to take the risk that their client will end up as the winner.

However, just because you don't pay for their fee until you win, that doesn't mean that you won't have some charges to pay along the way. These could be charges for filing paper work, barristers' or expert witness costs or even copying charges. The payment of all of the miscellaneous items will be agreed upon and written into a contract that the solicitor will personalise to the needs of your case. A wise client will not sign anything until he has thoroughly read the contract in order to understand exactly what charges they will be responsible for.

Often, a solicitor will charge a success fee, an amount of money that they are paid on top of their standard rate of pay as a reward for the risk that they are taking on your case. Some lawyers may charge up to two times their normal rate as a success fee.

No winning case is the same, just as no losing case is either. It is important to note what charges you will be responsible for should you lose the case as well. You might not have to pay your personal solicitor's fees, but you very well may have to pay the fees for the defendant's lawyer. In fact, you may end up with quite a large bill if you are not able to prove that you were indeed injured by your opponent. Many a client may actually find that their injuries case injures their wallet in the end. That is why selecting the correct solicitor, comparing rates and contracts, and getting a recommendation other than an advertisement in the local personals can be such an important step in assuring your future success with the case.
